Giant Sour Grapes

OK, OK, Yeah, Yeah, the NY Football Giants beat the Patriots in the Superbowl. I'm not gonna complain, they won fairly. They made some great plays. I am a Patriots fan, they are my team. But really, is this what the NFL wants to represent the league as Champions? Come on, the NYF Giants were 9-7 in the regular season, they barely made it into the playoffs, they lost to the Redskins and the Seahawks at home this season. They were ready to fire their coach by week 9. The problem I have is with the league parity, last year Seattle made it into the playoffs on a 7-9 record, Denver made it this year because they won the 3 way tie-breaker with two other teams and they lost their last 3 regular season games. Is this really a way to showcase the best of the best? I don't think so, Commissioner Goodell. The whole league seems really thin to me. A few plays one way or another for so many teams and it would flip things around. Regular season means nothing - and then you make a few plays, your opponent make a few bad plays, you just get hot in the playoffs and voila! -- you're a champion too.

Some day we're gonna get a couple of two 8-8 teams battle it out for The Vince Lombardi Trophy and I think Vince would ask for his name to be taken of the trophy.

Me and my Shadow

The whole idea that a grondhog's ability to see his shadow today and will affect our weather for 6 weeks is pure hooey!    Jus' sayin'

I was watching this on the news at 6:00am  this morning and there were thousands of people outsite to see the groundhog in Pennsylvania.

UF Career Advice

I was at the Univeristy of Florida last week doing some campus recruiting.  It's a great campus and has great programs for Engineering and Sciences.   We typically hire a few people for here every year.   One thing I notice when interviewing and meeting candidates...damn, they are so nervous!   Guys,  you need to relax.  We are not there to intimidate you.    Be yourself. And be prepared.  Have resumes available,  dress for success, maintain eye contact with the person that you are speaking too, ask questions.  Beleive it or not....we want to hire you and we want you to succeed.    For me, grades are not as important as if the person will be a fit in our organization and for that you need to be able to carry on a conversation.   Conversation skills are laking among the youth in the US and across the world.
  • Don't say "I'll do anything"  - Have goals; and if your goals line up with ours, even better.
  • Do research on the company- it shows that you are interested.
  • Follow-up with electronic copies of resumes - these are easier for us to share
  • Ask for feedback - it can only help you with your interview skills.
  • Figure out what you need to do to get an interview.
follow these guidelines and you will have better success with your job search.

A change of plans....  After pooh poohing this whole blog idea years ago as a passing fad and thinking it was for egomaniacs,  i have come around to the actually putting a few key strokes down and keeping a blog.  So this will be my place to vent, rail against the system and to share what I know.   Bottom's up.   We are going to have a good time here.
